Recently, I decided to go from point and shoot digital camera to a digital SLR camera. I wanted a little more control of what I shoot. I went with the Nikon D3000. This review is not about the camera but about the flash. I used the camera a few times and found the built in flash adequate only for near shots in regular light. At the club, with low light, the distant shots were very grainy.

After reading about external flashes, I decided to get one. Originally I was going to get one by Nikon. I didn't want to spend over $200 and saw the Bower Power Zoom Flash. I went with the Bower and am very happy with it. I've been on two boat rides and back to the same club as before. The pictures come out much better. Even the far shots with the zoom lens had enought light. I'm still learning when to use flash, filtered flash or bounce flash. I recommend rechargeable batteries. I carry a second set as I take over 500 shots in a night.

All in all, I highly... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, definitely a good price, April 29, 2009

I've only had my flash for a few weeks, but I'm pleased. Considering that that the Nikon flash units are an extra hundred or so dollars more than this one, it really can't be beat. I can't say that the the built-in diffuser is particularly impressive, but it wouldn't take much to just get a separate diffuser for a couple of bucks. Also, the unit is quite big and heavy, but few aren't. The flash has an exposure guide on the back, which is completely useless, as you'll probably be letting the camera's TTL calculations do all the work - that's what I do, anyway.

In sum, its cheap, and it gets the job done. If you're an amateur like me, this is a much better way to go than the official Nikon units.

I purchased this flash to use with my Nikon D7000. I only had a week to learn to use it before I shot a wedding. Thankfully, it was really easy to use. I don't know that much about it yet, but I aimed it at the ceiling the whole time and it seemed to work great. I'm very pleased with how the pictures turned out. I recommend this flash to anyone who doesn't have the money for a more expensive Nikon flash!
